Good breeding is the key to good Mastiffs. If you talk to a Mastiff breeder and he/she does not know the dogs in the pedigree of the sire and dam don’t buy a puppy. That shows a lack of concern for the breed and a lack of concern for the litter that is being produced. Two beautiful dogs who do not have good and complementary pedigrees will not produce good puppies. Good breeding and an understanding of the dogs in the pedigrees will help ensure that the puppy you get is as similar to the parents as possible, because most people purchase a puppy because they like the appearance and temperament of the parents.

While we do not tightly line-breed, we do try and breed from almost exclusively English bloodlines. We are not happy with the traits that we see in many of the “American bloodlines.” Mastiffs are supposed to be massive dogs with huge heads, tremendous bones, and wide thick bodies. Far too many dogs today are tall and thin and have very small bone, weak narrow rear ends, and heads that appear closer to that of a Great Dane. Females too should have large square heads with nice wrinkle, not just the males. There are a select few breeders throughout the country who we believe are breeding and producing correct Mastiffs and have done a tremendous service to the breed in maintaining the original Mastiff type. If we do not have a puppy for you and if we believe you would be a truly great home for a Mastiff we will happily put you in contact with one of these breeders so that you can get that Mastiff companion you are looking for.

We try and improve every time we breed and we will not allow a puppy of ours to be bred unless he or she is of correct type and temperament. Therefore, our puppies are generally sold on restricted registrations and/or with very strict restrictions that must be met before you may breed your dog.

The whole family pitches in to help raise the puppies. Their socialization will be well started by the time you get your puppy. However, you must continue the socialization to ensure that your Mastiff is not shy or uncomfortable in new situations. Socialization does not mean playing at home with your children and other family pets. Socialization means introducing your puppy to new people, animals, and situations. The more interaction with others the better Mastiff you will have. Parks, pet stores, puppy classes, parades, sporting events all make for great socialization opportunities.

We have had Mastiffs for over 15 years and will for the rest of our lives. We promise to always be here to answer any questions you might have no matter how silly you think the question is. We also really enjoy staying in touch through e-mails, calls, and pictures. We try and schedule a “puppy reunion” at our home once a year. It’s a great opportunity for us to see our puppies and for you to see litter mates and puppies from other litters. And, it’s a great chance to just talk Mastiff with other Mastiff lovers. We truly believe that we are only successful if you and your Mastiff are happy. We guarantee our puppies against genetic defects. We have been very fortunate (hopefully due to very careful breeding) that to date we have not had any puppy diagnosed with a genetic defect. If it does occur, however, we will work with you to remedy the situation in whatever way works best for you and your family. We also are happy to provide references and we encourage you to call one of our prior puppy purchasers to see if they are happy with their puppy.
